Prvi častni član Slovenskega društva za laboratorijske živali
Prof. Dr. Simon Horvat has been named the first honorary member of the Slovenian Laboratory Animal Society, which he co-founded 26 years ago. As one of the pioneers of this field in Slovenia, he also helped establish the first ethics committee for animal experiments, laying the foundations for today’s high professional and ethical standards. His work reaches far beyond the laboratory, from internationally recognized genetic research to science communication and the preservation of biodiversity.

Na podlagi Direktive 2010/63/EU Evropskega parlamenta in Sveta z dne 22. septembra 2010 o zaščiti živali, ki se uporabljajo v znanstvene namene, ter publikacije Evropske komisije Skrb za živali, usmerjenost k napredku v znanosti: Okvir za izobraževanje in usposabljanje, morajo vse osebe, ki delajo z živalmi v postopkih ali vodijo raziskovalne projekte, skrbeti za stalno strokovno izpopolnjevanje, t. i. kontinuirano usposabljanje oziroma vseživljenjsko učenje.
